Help us put together our first online writing course and you could win a free place!

Would you like to win a free place on our first online writing group? Just tell us what you want from an online writing group and we'll pick one entry at random to get a free place on the first course starting in October. Simple!

Writing Parents is currently running writing classes in London but we know that there are parents all over the world who want to reconnect with their creativity, or who are already writing and would like some inspiration and support to spur them on.

So, with this in mind we will soon be launching online writing groups where you can get inspiration from some great exercises, connect with other likeminded people across the world and hopefully write some great things too. All courses will be facilitated by experienced writing tutors.

Before we do this, we'd love to hear from you about what makes online courses good, great, or terrible and what you'd like to see from us.

Please leave a comment below, on Faceook or twitter telling us what you'd like to see from the course and any other things that are important to you.

One person (who comments either here, on Facebook or Twitter) picked at random will win a free place on our first course.

Competition open until 1st July. Winner announced 2nd July.

Thanks!

  1. Sounds great. A lot of courses are really expensive for what they are so something affordable please and not too much homework to do given we all have kids and chores and other stuff. Also something that is useful for writing in terms of teaching structure/characterisation not just writing for sake of writing - athough that nice too. Thanks!

  2. I really wanted to do the MA in Sheffield Hallam but five kids and husband setting up business meant it wasn't possible financially. But now.....ideally would like homework as in study from 'Masters' along the lines of this is an example of excellence in.... what can you learn from it...how would you use same skills....write an example of your own work which uses this etc....preferably weekly, but no minimum word counts if that stresses parents like previous commentator. Thanks, I am really excited about your project as I live in rural Yorks so not a lot of opportunity except online!

    1. Lol I live in rural France, I'm English and I write in English much to the chagrin of my French friends, so no chance for me except online!

I am currently midway into my third novel whether anyone will ever read it other than my friends and family remains to be seen!

  4. I've just started a course with The OU and I absolutely love the forums. The exchange of ideas, feedback and quick response from fellow students makes the course easy and enjoyable. So, forums are great in online courses.

  5. Am I ever so glad I stumbled upon this can of worms and treasure of a lifetime!!I have had a "wanting to write creatively" seed planted for eternity, but my many hats of duty have hindered sprouting opportunities. I have three beautiful and busy girls who keep me on my toes and little time for self indulgence and I am slowly but surely learning the art of balance. I will embrace an opportunity to swing back into letting my words do the talking as I used to in my secret diaries and write an A-Z on the parenthood experiences I have gone through and survived!! I would be honoured to have an opportunity to have a place in your online course and fulfill a dream I dream of and hopefully inspire others.

  6. Hello! Just wrote whole paragraph and then whole thing disappeared!!! Most frustrating!! Will try and rewrite in short. Firstly thanks for starting up such a fab project. I think we all have a secret desire to be more creative, especially busy mums.
I would suggest for on line course:
    1) Tips on how to get creative juices flowing!
    2) Tips on where and how to get published (if we get that far..never know..heres hoping..)
    3) Although homework is necessary, not too much as can imagine falling behind pretty quick otherwise
    4) On line chat forums so we can liaise and exchange ideas with other course members
    5) Might be quite isolating as an online course so here and there could perhaps hold live online lectures using Webex. There would be a main speaker and then if people want to ask questions, their face comes up so essentially is like a communal skype call
Sorry, think had some other points but can't remember them now due to my seivelike brain which I have had since pregnancy! Good luck with this exciting project!
    All the best,

  7. One more point, the chance to have our work looked at by the experienced facilitator..though this might be obvious, thanks, Goodnight, Deborah Binunx

  8. The tutor is truly the most important aspect. Someone who is tough but empathetic, who encourages writers to improve and not simply says 'well done.'

  9. Now there are increasingly more online schools for young students to decide on. There are lots of benefits to them and before making a set in stone verdict, you should research and learn a little more about probable choices. This allows for you to pick the best school for you.
