The Pram In The Hall - does parenthood have to mean the end of creativity?

"There is no more sombre enemy of good art than the pram in the hall” the critic Cyril Connolly once famously said. Was he right? Is parenthood so very hard to combine with creativity? These are my thoughts on whether motherhood and creativity can be successfully combined. I'd love to know yours too.

New Creative Writing Group For Parents - Next Writing Parents group 6th June Muswell Hill

Do you like to write? Maybe you used to write before you had children and would like to start again? Maybe you've always fancied giving it a go and feel that now might be a good time, or maybe you already write and would like to meet some other likeminded parents struggling to combine the two?

Wherever you are with writing, come along and join our friendly writing group in Muswell Hill. We meet once a month in the evening and explore the experience of being a parent through creative writing. It's a great way to reflect on parenthood and the changes that have taken place in your life - and who knows, it might lead to a new career or direction in writing!

Putting love into words - some poems on parenthood

Ever since we started our Writing Parenthood classes, I've been even more attuned to seeking out excellent writing about parenthood. Becoming a parent is such a transformative experience that it's unsurprising that so many people have written about it's impact on their lives and tried to put into words the immense feelings it inspires. There are so many poems that I love, but here are just a few that really stick in my mind for various reasons. I'd love to hear other recommendations too.

Writing Parents Launches in Muswell Hill

Our first workshop took place in Muswell Hill last week, in the idyllic and peaceful North Bank House. It was facilitated by the excellent Nicola Charalambou of Creative Writes who has a really supportive and stimulating style.

Furious scribbling took place as Nicola lead us through a series of timed exercises looking at the experience of parenting from a number of angles.

One attendee said after "Very emotional session. I'd recommend Nichola's workshops to anyone who wants to write from the heart."

The group was small and unintimidating and so new and more experienced writers both got a lot out of it.
